Volunteer Open House events are offered frequently and provide a tour of the home Please visit the volunteer page by clicking here.

Why is a maternity home needed today?
The dynamics of teen pregnancy produce strong emotions for many people touched by the life-changing news. Even when families want to do everything to support their pregnant daughter (or family member), she may need some time away to think through things and be with others who are facing the same situation. Other teens may need to leave home because of hurtful things said by friends or neighbors. Whatever the reason, residents will find safe space here, a loving environment, and unconditional love.

Doesn’t the government handle this sort of thing?
There is medical coverage for pregnant women (Medicaid) and some other helpful programs such as WIC. Georgia also has a few homes for pregnant teens and parenting teens that receive public funds. Kindred Spirit is a privately funded Christian home seeking to care for body, mind, and spirit of residents in a family environment.

What happens to young women after they leave Kindred Spirit?
Beginning at entry, each teen creates an exit plan based on her decision of parenting or adoption, her relationships with family, and her wishes. We will help her think through options realistically and plan for her education/career as well as the needs of the baby (if parenting). Because of the limitations of the current facility, infants may not stay in the home. Our permanent facility will incorporate an independent living component where teen mothers may live in the home with their babies for six to twelve months. We follow each resident in the After-Care program, offering support, guidance and the ability to participate in some activities.

What is the future plan for this ministry?
We own property to build a permanent facility that will allow us to welcome ten residents and have an Independent Living program for teen moms and their babies.

My kids are grown. Why should I be concerned about teen pregnancy?
Teen pregnancy only impacts three groups of people: families with children or grandchildren, taxpayers, and those who believe we should love one another. If you are part of one of these groups, it touches your life.
